Keeping it real in a virtual world

What is art?

There has been an ongoing and somewhat contentious debate on the subject “what is art?”. As we all know, art and beauty are truly in the eye of the beholder, which means that a person’s perception of art is subjective that individual’s taste. As a more traditional artist, who is also very involved with technology and innovation, I had to take a step back from my thoughts of “all they did was have a bot create the art”, which is tough because I have paint splatters, wood splinters, paper cuts and smashed fingers to show from making my physical creations, and what did the AI “artists” encounter? Need for more of RAM, lack of CPU power, eye strain and typos…LOL. But seriously, yes, I can say this is art and I would absolutely LOVE to display some of these images in digital frames throughout my creative spaces in my home.

I belong to a Facebook Group location at Midjourney AI which I have found very fascinating. I was invited to join the Midjourney Beta and have accepted, however, I have not yet had the opportunity (actually the down-time) to jump in yet. I fear that I will need an entire weekend with zero activities planned, as this looks very addictive.

Midjourney AI is a new AI-powered tool that can turn any imagination into artwork from text, and yes it can be beautiful, creepy, scary AF at times, nightmare worthy, etherial, magical and very inspirational. Imagery is created with the Midjourney Bot and user text prompts which then dig into a well-curated, and ever-growing database of imagery to build the image that is only in your mind.

Let’s take a look as some of the imagery created with Midjourney AI, and let me know your thoughts. Be sure to check out all the resources I have listed below, and then check out this image gallery of wonderful and weird creations that have been built using Midjourney AI.
